Roof and Gutter Cleaning Devonport

Devonport combines the two things that are hardest on a gutter system — genuinely old housing stock and full exposure to the harbour. Many of the villas and cottages here still run their original or early-replacement steel spouting, and being on a peninsula means salt-laden wind from more or less every direction rather than one prevailing side.

We treat these as careful jobs. Old spouting and century-old fascia boards do not appreciate ladder weight, so we work off the roof where the pitch allows and hand-clear rather than scrape. Once everything is out and flushed we look properly at the condition of the metal, because on this side of the harbour the question is often less "is it blocked" and more "how many seasons has this system got left". You get photos either way.

Devonport Gutter Cleaning FAQs

Yes, and carefully. Original ogee and half-round spouting is thin, and the brackets holding it are as old as the house. We hand-clear rather than scrape, keep ladder loads off heritage fascia boards, and work from the roof where the pitch allows it.

Being on a peninsula, it comes from most directions rather than one. That means there is no sheltered side of the house where the fixings last longer, which is what we tend to find elsewhere. Clearing regularly is the single most useful thing you can do, because trapped wet debris holds salt against the steel.

We work on privately owned heritage homes throughout Devonport. Where a property has a formal heritage listing with conditions attached, tell us at quoting stage so we can work within them. We are fully insured.

Twice a year for most properties. The leaf load here is often lighter than in the leafier central suburbs, but the flush matters more because of the salt, so we would not recommend stretching to an annual visit just because the gutters look reasonably clear from the ground.

We photograph them and send them through with a separate quote for the repair. Small perforations can often be patched. Where a run is corroded along its length, replacing that run is the honest answer and we will say so rather than selling you a repair that buys a season.
